Cheap italian vacation

Going on Cheap Italy Vacation by Vasko Stoianov

Well for starters you may want to go on your vacation to Italy during the off season. This will mean that you will find cheaper airfares. There are great prices to be found for airfare especially if you plan to fly directly from a major international airport such as New York or London. All airfare rates drop dramatically after the summer. Hotel rates per night will also be more affordable. After the summer many hotels are recovering from the large numbers of people that came through their doors. You will find out that during your cheap Italy vacation most places are happy for customers that provide them with business during the off peak season.

Service could be even better simply because there are fewer people to serve and focus on. The lines are also shorter for almost everything. Peak season is the summer months of June through August. So why not plan to go in September if you can? You will still enjoy all the sights and the remnants of great summer weather. For example Rome in July can go up to 92 degrees but may be 80 degrees in September. The advantage of going on your Italian Vacation during the off-peak season is that the crowds are not there, the weather is slightly cooler and Italy becomes more of itself. You can really experience Italy and its people if you go in the off season and you will save some money too. Not only are hotels and airfares cheaper in the off season but you will also find discounts available for guided tours and concerts.

Another way to save on your cheap Italian vacation is to take public transportation whenever possible rather than a taxi. Of course this needs some planning in advance or you could spend numerous hours lost and wasting valuable time. But with an adventurous spirit and an Italian pocket dictionary in hand it can be done! Italy is well known for its extensive rail network. You can get a rail pass or buy tickets as you go. Either way this option will help you save if you are on a budget.

Another great tip for a cheap Italy vacation is to forgo the hotel altogether. Rent a house or an apartment for a few days if you are in a group and you will save tremendously. This is especially true if you also factor in the presence of a kitchen that can allow you to make some of your meals rather than rely on dining out for every meal. Even if you have to stay at a hotel you should also consider fixing some simple meals such as sandwiches when you can especially if you come across a grocery store during your cheap Italian vacation.

cheap tour at Le Marche

La Dolce Vita - Cheaper by Laura Latham

Le Marche is one of Italy's least known yet most beautiful and affordable regions. Homes Overseas searches out Italy's hidden corner

If you stop at Tuscany or Umbria you may be missing out on one of Italy's best-kept secrets - unspoilt Le Marche. Bordered by the Adriatic and hemmed in by the Apennine mountains, the region offers rolling farmland, medieval towns and bustling coastal resorts.

With recent capital appreciation of around five per cent per annum in the past three years, prices in Le Marche have stayed pretty reasonable. Linda Travella of Casa Travella, says the area is a good option if you want the beauty of more popular regions but don't want to pay their prices. "The market in Le Marche is stable but still developing," she says, "you can find similar landscapes to Tuscany but at a lower cost, and you can certainly still find bargains."

Travella says the northern coastal strip around Ancona is more developed and expensive than south and central areas, which Travella claims offers "some lovely coastal properties", though she cautions it won't be dirt cheap because of its proximity to the sea.

For the best value, Travella believes house-hunters should head away from the coast. "If you're looking for a good investment and high rental yields travel a little further inland to somewhere like Fermo. For a more rural feel go to Macerata or Amandola."

Travella claims prices in rural locations can start as low as €60,000 (£47,900) and coastal properties in the south from around €100,000 (£79,800) for something in need of restoration, though these are becoming harder to find. Homes in better condition in more sought-after areas retail for around €250,000 (£200,000) but you will often get better value than elsewhere in Italy by having a large amount of land and either being close to a nice town with amenities or within easy reach of the coast.

Gemma Knowles of GK Italian Property also feels Le Marche is an area that will increasingly attract buyers priced out of Tuscany and Umbria. "It's very Italian," she says, "and unlike Tuscany and much of Umbria you won't find restaurants with English menus and shopkeepers that speak English. Though the beaches aren't as interesting as other coasts, the sand is white and resorts are beautifully maintained."

Knowles recommends that buyers look at several key locations for the best investments, such as the walled city of Urbino, which she says "oozes history and has a warm, friendly atmosphere. The city is surrounded by rolling hills that drop down to the coast."

Prices here vary widely and depend on style and location but within the €300,000 to €600,000 (£240,000 to £479,000) price bracket you can find farmhouses, stone village properties and luxury apartments in historic buildings, all in varying states of repair.

Right on the coast, the busy town of Pesaro is another favourite with Knowles: "During the summer Pesaro is much like the other seaside resorts on the Adriatic with its long sand beach, rows of sunbeds and rather dated hotels. But the city doesn't become a ghost town out of season. Its old town buzzes year round with great shops, restaurants and bars and an increasingly younger population with few British tourists."

Knowles says buyers should expect to pay around €250,000 (£200,000) for a two-bedroom apartment, with homes in the historic centre or near the beach starting at around €280,000 (£223,000) for something in need of modernisation. "Villas around Pesaro start from approximately €400,000 [£319,000], as there are fewer old-style properties near the town, with most having been built in the last 20 years," says Knowles. "This is because mainly Italians buy in this area and they typically like new-build rather than older properties."

If you do plan on buying a restoration project, Le Marche offers lots of possibility, according to John Dillon of Realpoint Italy: "Property in Le Marche offers unrivalled opportunities, especially for anyone who loves doing up beautiful old houses, as strict planning laws restrict the construction of new-builds because the area falls within the boundaries of regional and national parks."

Dillon says farmhouses, some with outbuildings ripe for conversion, cost from around €500 (£399) per square metre up to €1,700 (£1,355) for something fully restored. He estimates average renovation costs around €500 to €750 (£399 to £599) per square metre, but says, once renovated, such a property would rent for between €600 and €800 (£479 and £639) per week in high season. He recommends the town of Apecchio for second-home owners who may want to rent their property out, due to its popularity with summer tourists.

If you want something a little more modern there is also plenty of choice. Dillon says villas and apartments on the coast with sea views start at around €3,500 (£2,795) per square metre and townhouses from €2,000 to €3,000 (£1,595 to £2,395).

Dillon describes the market in the region as "buoyant" due to buyers being priced out of other areas and an opening up of Le Marche by budget flights. He also claims Italy is a very different market to Spain.

"People choose Italy because they love the country," he says. "They may have had business links with an area, usually speak Italian or wish to learn, and are interested in the culture of the country. The number of overseas buyers in Italy is growing fast."

Italian discount airfare

Discount Airfare To Italy - What You Should Expect
By David Faulkner Platinum Quality Author

If you find out that a friend or a neighbor is spending a couple of weeks in Italy for a vacation, you will automatically assume that he must be quite rich to be able to afford a trip to Europe 'just like that.' However, with more and more companies selling discount airfare to Italy, practically anyone can afford to tour Europe. Seeing the world is no longer an activity exclusively for the wealthy.

Cheaper flights do not always mean poor service or uncomfortable accommodations. But you will definitely have to sacrifice some of the perks that come with traveling first or business class on luxurious airlines.

For one thing, traveling on discount airfare to Italy usually means you will be seated in the economy section of the airplane. This is not such a bad thing, but if you are used to the pampering in the first class, you might have to brace yourself for the difference.

There have also been a few reported cases of lost luggage when traveling on flights with discount airfare to Italy. If you are going to travel at a discount, you have to prepare yourself for such situations and take extra caution with your belongings.

You must also expect to take several stops when paying discount airfare to Italy. Saving on travel expenses usually means going on multiple flights instead of just sitting comfortably on the plane until you reach your final destination.

For instance, if you are coming from the United States, the cheapest way to get to Italy would be to fly to London first. Cheap tickets from the US to London are much easier to obtain than discount airfare to Italy. When you get to London, there are a few small airlines there that can take you to Italy for as low as $30.

It is advisable to check out these airlines first before buying your discount airfare to Italy. The most popular ones for tourists on a budget are RyanAir and EasyJet.

However, these cheap airlines may not be traveling from the same airport that you arrived in, so you would have to take a cab to a different airport. This will usually cost an additional $50, not to mention the number of hours you would have to spend traveling by car.

If you are planning to get discount airfare to Italy, you would have to take into consideration all these other expenses and not just the price of the airplane tickets. You also have to think about the time and other inconveniences that discount airfare to Italy might mean for you and your traveling companions.

If you add all these expenses and find that you will still save a considerable amount, then by all means, buy the discount airfare to Italy and spend the rest of your money on your actual vacation. Just make sure you are up for the adventure, and that the minor adjustments will not stress you out and take away from the enjoyment you will otherwise have from your Italian vacation.

If you are traveling in style and you are visiting Venice, you may want to consider staying at the Novecento Boutique Hotel. It is a chic bed and breakfast that is family run and offers luxurious accommodations. 30 minutes from the airport and offering free internet services, this hotel is modern but still maintains the old Venetian feel to it that will be appreciated by even the most discerning visitors. It is very close to many of Venice's main attractions and with only 9 rooms, it is most suited to smaller groups or pairs. Most of the rooms have antiques collected by the owners through their own world travels and the bathrooms are especially large. The food here is said to be excellent and this boutique hotel is noted for its peaceful setting even for being as close as it is to all the action in Venice. You will find original florentino tiled floors and even the bar counter was a confessional from 1500AD. Some bedrooms have terraces and you may be able to see the courtyard gardens from your terrace. Breakfast here is also said to be excellent and there are numerous restaurants close by to choose from for your other meals. There are 45 air-conditioned rooms here and also a gym and a solarium. This hotel also provides access to the internet if you cannot go without it on your Italy vacation.

Tour to Rome

Accommodation in Rome: hotels or apartments? - By: Paola Lo Russo

Choosing an accommodation when you go abroad is much more than just choosing a place to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. Choosing the accommodation for your vacations or your business travels in a city like Rome is even more delicate: it means choosing a lifestyle. There are so many different things linked to staying in an hotel or in apartment here, even if the most important thing, you’re probably thinking, is the city in itself, which is exactly the same wherever you decide to spend the nights. And you’re probably right: Rome is so beautiful and packed with history and art that you will never want to stay indoor. But still, there are several different ways to enjoy the beauties of the eternal city, and mostly those things that do not fit in the category "sightseeing musts" of your guide. It’s totally different to live in an apartment or to lodge in an hotel.

In a Rome apartment you will be able to prepare your own breakfast and meals just the way you’re used to, to have your private bedroom and at the same time to share a living room or a dining room together with the rest of your family or your group of friends. In an apartment you will not have to put any sign to not be disturbed, because nobody will enter in what you will be considering as your home in Italy.

In a Rome hotel, instead, you will be spoiled by the kindness of the staff, by their care and services, and you will enjoy breakfasts, lunches and dinners together with the other guests prepared for you to satisfy every kind of desires, to meet people coming from all around the world to see the Vatican, or the Colosseum or the Spanish Steps or any of the most popular spots of the Eternal City.

Please note that this has nothing to do with budget: in Rome there are apartments and hotels of any kind, from the most luxury to the most simple one, which means from the most expensive to the cheapest one. It’s just a matter of style. Do you feel more like a visitor to be taken care of and seduced or a traveller who prefers independence? The kind of accommodations in Rome you will decide to book will have a huge influence in the way you will remember your time in the capital of Italy.

Did you choose an apartment? You will definitely remember that day in which you shopped in that old grocery store or in that typical outdoor Italian market and you went home to cook your own lasagna with the recipe some lady gave you along the way. Did you go for an hotel? You will remember the typical Italian kitchen you tasted in so many different restaurants or the monuments and museums you had the time to visit because you know someone else would have already been taken care of your needs as you would have stepped back in the hall of your hotel.

So now that you know why you should take the hotel way or the apartment way while you’re in Rome, the choice is up to you: make it your way! And don’t make this the choice of lifetime: remember that anywhere your bed in Rome will be located, it will be under the same sky the Romans used to look at two thousand years ago. This is already enough to make everyone going: "Wow!".

Paola Lo Russo is a true expert of travel to Italy. You can find out more about Rome hotels and Rome apartments on his online resource at http://www.romaclick.com

Touring Venice in Italy

Tourists need not be intimidated by the high cost of touring Italy. PR-USA.Net has some interesting piece of info below on how to see Venice even on a tight budget. We appreciate the concern of these companies who make travel easier and "lighter".

Venice Gondola Agency Teams Up with HostelsClub Online Travel Agency

HostelsClub.com and Venice Gondola Tours have joined forces to take into account the economic crisis for all tourists visiting Venice. They have teamed up to provide HostelsClub's clients a lower price to ride on the historically majestic hand-built wooden boats that Venice is known for.

This year prices of hostels and hotels have also lowered in the region to allow for tourists to continue to visit this unique floating city, but there has never been a decrease in prices for a gondola ride. To be fair, gondoliers invest a load of money, nearly €20,000 on their boats which only have a lifespan of about twenty years and they earn a bulk load of their annual income in just a few short months; hence the high rates. However, HostelsClub.com, also originating from Italy, has been able to negotiate on a bargain deal for their budget-minded clients.

Italy: 6 ways to spend the night

By Reid Bramblett

Farmstays, villa rentals, mountain refuges. Six ways to immerse yourself in the real Italy.
Il Santuario della Verna, in Tuscany, welcomes guests of all faiths.

Il Santuario della Verna, in Tuscany, welcomes guests of all faiths.

THE B&B
Ever wanted an Italian mother (for a night)?

The bed-and-breakfast -- Italians use the English phrase -- is a growing trend in Italy that didn't really exist 20 years ago. As with B&Bs anywhere else, the experience is made by chatty proprietors, the best of whom take guests under their wing and share tips over breakfast. The B&Bs are distinguished by the details -- whether you get to spread a flaking cornetto (croissant) with fig jam or meet the owner's kids, the point is total immersion in Italian living.

Our pick: In the heart of postcard-perfect Ferrara, one block from the main piazza, Adele Orlandini has been running Locanda Borgonuovo since 1994. The four graceful rooms, each with its own bath, are filled with a pleasing jumble of antiques. Orlandini takes breakfast seriously, baking homemade tortes and cakes and serving them alongside cheeses, preserves and fresh fruit in a living room hung with more than 50 works of art.

Orlandini is in love with her hometown and eager to help guests experience it, whether that means securing reduced-price tickets to museums or suggesting off-the-radar highlights, such as an unmarked palazzo with newly restored Renaissance frescoes. With such service (and low rates), the Borgonuovo books up far in advance, which is why Orlandini recently acquired three efficiency apartments in the building next door: two mansard suites with rooftop views and a larger flat -- all with full kitchens.

Stretch your travel food budget

By Sid Kaplan
Travel Writer
Troy Media Corporation

Sid KaplanEating and drinking in grand style will shrink your travel budget and leave you less money to do other things. Fortunately, there are lots of little ways you can save on food when you're traveling.

If your hotel doesn't include breakfast in the price of the room, think outside the box and save money by venturing outside to a corner café rather paying the price of a hotel breakfast buffer.

For example, in Paris, join the local crowd and have coffee, juice and a croissant. Or in Madrid, try a churros con (with) chocolate. In the US, there are plenty of small breakfast places where you can get a great bacon, eggs and coffee breakfast for only a few bucks.

Another great way to stretch your travel budget is to enjoy a picnic for lunch or dinner. You can pick up cheeses and meats and breads at local grocery stores and specialty shops. Grab a bottle of local wine. Eat in your room or in a local park with a great view.

Avoid touristy restaurants. If you see a restaurant on the main street that has menus in several languages, it's going to cost you more. Find a mom and pop place down a side street or go with a recommendation from a local such as your friendly B&B host. Look for "prix fixe" menus or daily specials for great meals at good prices.

Italy city breaks: Six things you must do in...Milan

By Gareth Huw Davies

Gareth Huw Davies stayed in the superstar footballer's hotel but compiled his pick of things to see and do on a mere mortal's budget, enjoying the glory of the cleaned-up Duomo, coffee like a Puccini aria in a cup, a fabulous pizza place, and La Scala opera house, with ushers straight out of a Botticelli portrait.

1...HIGH RELIGION

The front of Milan's colossal late Gothic cathedral, the Duomo (free entry), has been restored to its original sparkling white and is a sensation. Choose a moment when there isn't a big tour party inside.

I took the steps (£4.25, the lift is £6.75) up to the rooftop for an amazing Mary Poppins moment. I walked out among the gargoyles and flying buttresses, under the statue of the Virgin atop the main spire.

The view is exhilarating, from the matchstick figures in the main square outside the graceful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (the original shopping mall) to a stupendous panorama of the snowcapped Alps.

2...TRANSPORT OF DELIGHT

These days you can reach Milan by leisurely overnight train, via Paris. If you fly, choose a service to Linate airport, ten minutes (£4) away by bus.

The bigger Malpensa terminal is 30 miles out and you need to take a shuttle bus from Terminals 1 and 2 (£10 return) or board the Malpensa Express train which runs to Milan's Cadorna station (£9.30 single).

Travel in Milan is a delight - and I've never seen so many Smart cars and Prius taxis. Our vital purchase was the two-day travel card (£4.60), for unlimited travel by metro and bus, and on the city's wonderful ancient and modern tram system.
